The episode, titled The Editor, directed by Donald Wilder, used Acton as a backdrop for the fictional town of Middletown, Ontario, examining some of the reasons the editor of a weekly newspaper commands the respect and attention of loyal readers in small communities across the country.
This particular episode tells the story of an aging editor of a weekly paper, played by Rex Devlin, who printed what he believed when a local issue arose concerning the sacrifice of a public park for an industrial site.
His editorial brought the matter out into the open and, despite controversy, produced results favourable both to the community and to the industry concerned, saving the park and still allowing for industry to come to town on a different site.
